"Everyone loves the idea of compassion until it costs them. We love the idea of love until it comes to unlovable people. We think discipleship is a romantic programmatic workshop of willing people: but it’s actually messy, difficult, heartbreaking, and requires your whole life. What they also don’t tell you is that it’s awesome. When you’re face to face, chair to chair, eye to eye with a real person, there’s nothing like seeing the lights go on, the lies disentangled, the burden lifted, the problems exposed, the trauma healed, the heart rejoicing — there is absolutely nothing that compares to the pinnacle of God’s glory in one human being discipling another. I mean really discipling them, to just love someone. That click you hear is the something-missing being filled. To love people is what you’re created to do. Once you get there, you can’t go back anymore."
- Me on my wedding day: you still like me right
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

"Legalistic remorse says, ‘I broke God’s rules,’ while real repentance says, ‘I broke God’s heart’."

"Seek Christ because you need Him. Cry out to Christ because you love Him. He is more than “a little something to get you through the day.” He is the very reason you have lived to see the day. Show respect by not reducing him to your personal antidepressant or bottle of whiskey."

"And God said “Love Your Enemy,” and I obeyed him and loved myself."
We, as ‘first world dwellers’ — are incredibly comfortable in our willingness to live extravagantly, and spend unnecessarily. We hand over hundreds of dollars for clothing we don’t need, empty foods we haven’t consumed from our fridges to make room for fresher options, drive to the store two blocks from our homes - because it’s a little colder than we’d like. We bin shoes we have worn twice, leave lights on for hours, shower until the water runs cold, and still we complain that life is hard… We are self-involved, self-glorifying and self-assured.. Quite simply - we are selfish. We are wasteful, ignorant and naive to think that we are not a part of the very same problem we pray to God to fix. If you want to see a better world, to see children living past their infant and toddler years, without the fear of being disease ridden or crippled for life - If you want to see the homeless being clothed, fed and provided with opportunities for life skills — then take a good look in the mirror, at your lifestyle, your spending habits, your wastefulness, your selfishness and your ignorance. It’s time to stop questioning God on why He isn’t doing something about the state of our world; and start questioning ourselves.
What more can I say to He who knows, understands and created all that is within existence and beyond; but thank You. How honoured I am that You raised me - Your blessed child -from the dusty dry land, and that You thought of me, with love in mind, ahead of time. How blessed I am that You lifted me from the earth, and breathed life and hope into my emptiness. In the knowledge that someday, I would come to know You by choice, and to love You by choice, as my beautiful, ever-present Maker, Provider and Sustainer. How magnificent it is to call You Father. How entirely encouraging and uplifting Your love for me is, And Lord, oh how worthy of praise and glory You are. How blessed I am to walk in Your shadows, to learn from Your ways, and to wander amongst Your creations. How truly inspiring Your thoughts and ways are, Father. How greatly, lovingly and longingly I desire to be just like You. To be but a mere reflection of my Creator, and to live boldly and strongly in confidence and assurance of Your will for my life- to not doubt nor question, but to embrace and run forth.. Oh how I desire to be all that You have called me to be Father. I am forever thankful, yes- oh so grateful, to be chosen by You, pre-destined and called… For such a time as this. May I never take Your perfect timing for granted, but take hold of all opportunities You lay before me, and live them out according to Your will for me. Thank You, time and time again, for the chance to start my days over.. Ever blessed I am, that in Your grace and mercies, I am made new every morning- and much like the sun, as it surely will rise- so Your love for me does.
"O Lord, No day of my life has passed that has not proved me guilty in thy sight. Prayers have been uttered from a prayerless heart; Praise has been often praiseless sound; My best services are filthy rags. Blessed Jesus, let me find a covert in thy appeasing wounds. Though my sins rise to heaven thy merits soar above them; Though unrighteousness weighs me down to hell, thy righteousness exalts me to thy throne. All things in me call for my rejection, All things in thee plead my acceptance. I appeal from the throne of perfect justice to thy throne of boundless grace. Grant me to hear thy voice assuring me: that by thy stripes I am healed, that thou wast bruised for my iniquities, that thou hast been made sin for me that I might be righteous in thee, that my grievous sins, my manifold sins, are all forgiven, buried in the ocean of thy concealing blood. I am guilty, but pardoned, lost, but saved, wandering, but found, sinning, but cleansed. Give me perpetual broken-heartedness, Keep me always clinging to thy cross, Flood me every moment with descending grace, Open to me the springs of divine knowledge, sparkling like crystal, flowing clear and unsullied through my wilderness of life."
Puritan Prayers, The Broken Heart
"Allow yourself to see the vision that God has planned for you but in order to do this we need to soften our hearts to allow God in."
"God has no shame. He will love you, even if you don’t love Him back. He has no pride. He will chase after you, even if you hate Him. God loves carelessly, and without concern for His own broken heart."
"We’re in a culture which says, “do the minimum, and expect a huge applause for it”… But God is a God who did the maximum and He gets almost zero appreciation for it."
